Funke Akindele starred in the sitcom I Need to Know from 1998 to 2002, and in 2009 she won the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
Funke Akindele came into the limelight after starring in the popular United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) sponsored sitcom I Need to Know, which ran from 1998 to 2002. Funke played Bisi, a curious but highly intelligent secondary school student. Funke Akindele’s big break came in 2008 when she appeared in the movie Jenifa’s diary.

Failed Marriages:
Nigerian actress Funke Akindele-Bello has opened up on her first failed marriage with her ex-husband Adeola Oloyede.
Akindele-Bello during a chat with Chude Jideonwo on his show #WithChude admonished young women against rushing into marriage because of pressure. Citing her first marriage as an example, she revealed what went wrong.
“You know, I just wanted to get married,” Akindele-Bello said. “I want to do things right, have children and all that. And I went into the (first) marriage, it didn’t work fine. And it ended in a very bad way, in social media, the noise was everywhere. I was actually filming and somebody called me and told me, I wanted to die!
“You know I cried, lost some good deals then. But I didn’t let it’s break me.”
Speaking to young women, Akindele-Bello added: “As a young lady out there, do not be pressured to get married. Get married because you want to get married, get married because you love him, you want to spend the rest of your life with him. Don’t get married because mummy and daddy are saying get married or your friend just got married, have children because you want to have children, you want to be blessed with children, you love children.
“Don’t have children because the society will say “ah she’s barren ohh, 12 years 6 years e never marry” ignore the gossips, ignore the naysayers, give them “sorry the middle finger, I don’t care”. Yes, ignore because you have your life, do what makes you happy.”
Funke and JJC Skillz Split
It was shocking news for the lovers of Funke Akindele and her ex-husband Abdul Bello popularly known JJC Skillz as the latter announced that things have been really difficult for them and they have both separated.
According to him, he had to move out of the house three months ago at Funke Akindele’s insistence and apart from the public appearance they both had at the just concluded African Magic Viewers’ Choice Award (AMVCA), they have not been able to sit down in an amicable manner to discuss the future of their relationship.
In an Instagram post today Thursday, June 30th, he wrote: “Dear Friends and family I need to let you know that Funke and I have separated. While it lasted we shared a lot of things together and have created 2 beautiful children. The last two years have been extremely difficult for us. I know I have tried my best to fix things but I believe it is beyond repair now.
“3 months ago and at Funke’s insistence I moved out of the house and apart from AMVCA have not been able to get Funke to sit down in an amicable manner to discuss the future of our relationship. I’m making this announcement so that the public is clear that we both are pursuing separate lives.
“We still have issues that need to be addressed such as the custody and wellbeing of our children which is paramount as well as business interests which need to be disentangled but I have no doubt that these will be resolved one way or the other.”

Controversy:
Famous Nollywood Actress, Funke Akindele and her husband, AbdulRasheed Bello popularly known as JJC Skillz, were sentenced to 14 days community service.
Funke Akindele and her husband were charged to court for violating restriction orders in Lagos.
On the 6th of April, 2020 at about 11am, Funke Akindele Bello and her husband Abdul Rasheed Bello were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court 1 Ogba on one count charge.
They were brought to Court by detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of investigation, DCP Yetunde Longe.
The prosecuting team was lead by the Hon Attorney General of Lagos State, Moyosore Onigbanjo, SAN. The charge was read to the accused persons by the Court and they pleaded guilty.
In January 2018, there was a controversy when it was reported that Akindele would get her Hollywood debut in Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War as she was listed as a member of the cast on IMDb. Mainstream Nigerian press reported that she was set to star in Infinity War as the guard Dora Milaje, citing IMDb.
Some weeks later her name was replaced with that of fellow Nigerian actress Genevieve Nnaji, with Akindele’s upload shown to have been a hack. In February 2018, it was reported that Senate President and Chairman of the National Assembly, Dr Bukola Saraki has advised Marvel Studios to feature Akindele in Infinity War.

JJC Skillz disclosed the development in an Instagram post.
According to him, he has tried his “best to fix things” but believed “it is beyond repair now”

Becoming Lagos PDP Deputy Governorship candidate
The Lagos state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on July 12, 2022 unveiled Funke Akindele as the deputy governorship candidate to its gubernatorial candidate, Dr Olajide Adediran, popularly known as Jandor.

Funke Akindele plays the lead character in the ongoing hit TV show Jenifa’s Diary, alongside Fisayo Ajisola, Falz, Juliana Olayode, and Aderounmu Adejumoke.
