Abiodun Oyebanji was a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at the University of Ado-Ekiti from 1993 until 1997. He worked as a Manager at defunct Omega Bank PLC, now known as Heritage Bank, for four years, until May 1999. He is also involved in agriculture and currently serves as the chairman of Con Dios Farm LTD.

Biodun Oyebanji resigned as the state SSG on December 7, 2021, to devote himself fully to the governorship campaign. The resignation was conveyed in a letter to the Governor, dated December 3, 2021, according to a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode.
Oyebanji’s resignation was based on his decision to run for governor of the state in the upcoming election. According to the statement, Governor Fayemi thanked the former SSG for his outstanding contributions to the administration since its inception in 2018 and wished him well in his future endeavors.
He would pick up the election nomination in Abuja a few days later, accompanied by some political appointees. Biodun Oyebanji said during one of the campaign tours that Governor Fayemi and the state’s first executive governor, Niyi Adebayo, had given him the best of pupillage in governance and politics so that he could navigate the bumpy terrain and deliver.
