Who is Chloe Kim?
Chloe Kim is a famous American professional snowboarder and two-time Olympic gold medalist. She became the youngest woman to win an Olympic snowboarding gold medal after she won gold in the women’s snowboard halfpipe aged 17 years at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Kim later became the first woman to win two gold medals in halfpipe at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. She is also a six-time X Games gold medalist and the first woman to win two gold medals in snowboarding at the Winter Youth Olympic Games. Kim is the World, Olympic, Youth Olympic, and X Games Champion in the halfpipe and the first to win the title at all four major events.

X Games
Kim received a silver medal in superpipe in the 2014 Winter X Games after Kelly Clark while too young to compete in the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. She then won Gold in the superpipe at the Winter X Games, besting Clark in 2015. After the victory at the age of 14, she became the youngest gold medalist till she lost the record to Kelly Sildaru, who won gold at the age of 13 in 2016.
She then became the first person under the age of 16, to win two gold medals in the 2016 X Games. Kim became also the first person to win back-to-back gold medals at an X Games. She became the first woman to land back-to-back 1080 spins in a snowboarding competition at that year’s U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix. Kim scored a perfect 100 points and is the second rider ever to achieve that following Shaun White.

Who are Chloe Kim’s parents?
Chloe Kim was born in Long Beach, California to South Korean parents, Jong Jin Kim and Boran Yun Kim. Her father quit his job to be able to drive her to the mountains and travel with her when she competes. He started her on a snowboard at the age of four at the southern California resort of Mountain High. She began competing as a member of Team Mountain High at the age of six.
Kim is a second-generation Korean-American, whose parents emigrated from South Korea during the country’s authoritarian era. Kim’s father arrived in the U.S. with just $800 in cash and served minimum-wage jobs. He finally got a college degree at El Camino College in manufacturing engineering technology. However, he later quit his job to assist his daughter to pursue her career in snowboarding. Kim’s extended family is in South Korea, inclusive of her grandmother. She has been discriminated against, experiencing racist and hateful messages due to the fact that she is Asian-American.

Chloe Kim Education
Kim has also trained from the age of four at Mountain High, becoming a member of Team Mountain High at the age of six. She then trained in Geneva, Switzerland, from the age of eight to ten prior to going back to California and training at Mammoth Mountain.
She attended Dana Middle School, and after graduating she was admitted to Princeton University in 2018. However, she deferred the offer of admission until 2019, and studied science.

Kim began training snowboarding from the age of four, joining the U.S. Snowboarding team in 2013. She has been featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated after her gold medal win. Kim was then featured in Nike’s ”Dream Crazier” ad with Simone Biles, Serena Williams, Ibtihaj Muhammad, Megan Rapinoe, and other women athletes in 2019. The advertisement appeared during the 2019 Oscars.
Chloe later competed in season 4 of The Masked Singer as ”Jellyfish” in late 2020. She eventually proceeded to the semi-finals of the competition prior to being unmasked in a triple elimination together with Tori Kelly as ”Seahorse” and Taylor Dayne as ”Popcorn”. 2016 Winter Youth Olympics
Chloe became the first American woman to win a gold medal in snowboarding at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016. She also received the highest snowboarding score in Youth Olympic Games history at the time. Kim was picked as Team USA’s flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony of the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games. She hence became the first snowboarder picked to serve as flag bearer for Team USA at either the Olympic Winter Games or Youth Olympic Games. 2018 Winter Olympics
Kim won the gold medal in the Women’s Halfpipe finals with Ricky Bower as her coach at her first Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Her first score was 93. 75 points, leading the second place with 8.5 points ahead. Kim’s final score in the halfpipe was close to a perfect score at 98.25 points, ahead of Liu Jiayu, who was 2nd with almost 10 points. She became the youngest woman to ever win gold at the Olympics in the halfpipe, surpassing the past record holder, Kelly Clark, who had won the gold at age 19. The record landed her a position on Time magazine’s annual Time 100 list.
2022 Winter Olympics
Chloe became a two-time Olympian after she competed at her second consecutive Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. She joined the women’s halfpipe event, and successfully defended her Olympic title. Hence becoming the first female snowboarder to win back-to-back gold medals at the snowboard halfpipe event.
Following her qualification for the final place with a score of 87.75, achieved in her first run, she won the event with a score of 94.00, also achieved in her first run. Kim used her additional two runs in the final to try a new trick, however, in both attempts she was not able to stick the landing. Due to this, her scores for the 2nd and 3rd runs were low (27.00 and 26.25 respectively). Thus they were discarded with the score from her first run counted to secure the Olympic title.
