An Early Work
He made his first television appearance when he was seven in an Andrex advertisement. When he was 9 years old in 1991, he played the role of a little boy pretending to be an orphan in You Rang M’Lord? When he was eleven years old, he was cast in the film The Adventures of Pinocchio, as The Fighting boy with Dawn French and Griff Rhys Jones and co-starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Richard Claxton, and Correy Carrier. In addition, he made several minor appearances in television series such as Casualty, The South Bank Show, The Bill, “Soldier Soldier”, and Nickelodeon’s LOL: Laugh Out Loud. He went on to make an appearance as a participant in the ITV documentary Club Reps in 2002.
An EastEnders Career
As he was about to give up on the idea of becoming an actor, then he gained a role in BBC One soap opera EastEnders. Thus he was cast as Mickey Miller and in April 2003, he made his first appearance in EastEnders as a recurring character. It was announced on February 26, 2008, that Joe Swash along with the actor who plays his stepfather, David Spinkx were being written out of EastEnders in a “big explosive storyline”. In July 2008, he made his final appearance. And since the announcement of his departure, he has been critical of the direction producers took with his character. However, he has expressed an interest in returning. Later on September 19 and 20, 2011, he reprised his role of Mickey Miller for two episodes, in order to coincide with his on-screen brother’s departure from the soap.
A Career in I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here
In November 2008, he entered the Australian jungle to appear in the 8th series of the British reality show I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here which he won. Therefore, he has been a part of the presenting team from 2009 onwards on the spin-off series I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, NOW!. He has co-presented the show with various presenters including; (2009–2010), Russell Kane (2009–2011), Laura Whitmore (2011–2015), Rob Beckett (2012–2014), and David Morgan (2015). In 2016, the show was renamed I’m a Celebrity: Extra Camp. With the new show, he has co-presented the show with; Vicky Pattison (2016), Stacey Solomon (2016), Chris Ramsey (2016), Joel Dommett (2017–2018), and Scarlett Moffatt (2017–2018). It was confirmed on July 20, 2019, that Joe had left the show and would not return for the series that year.
A Career Dancing on Ice
Besides a television career, he made an appearance in January 2020 as a contestant on the 12th series of Dancing on Ice. For this reason, he partnered with Alexandra Schauman from week 1 until she sustained an injury in week 3. In week 4, he partnered with Alex Murphy. He and Murphy went on to win the series when they beat Perri Kiely and his partner Vanessa Bauer.
A Career in Other Television Appearances
Joe along with ex-rugby player Austin Healey appeared in the 2nd series of Hole in the Wall, in 2009 as a team captain. In 2010, he was a team captain on What Do Kids Know? with Rufus Hound and Sara Cox on Watch. Joe went to present the children’s show Gimme A Break in 2011 on the CBBC Channel. He and Caroline Flack in 2011 worked on ITV2 game show Minute to Win It as team captains.
Driving Academy aired in November 2011, on the CBBC Channel with Joe as presenter/narrator. A brand new series was aired in 2014 with celebrities taking part in called Celebrity Driving Academy. In 2013 and 2014, he was a regular team captain on the ITV2 panel show Fake Reaction. He then joined the line-up The Jump in 2016 as a contestant. In 2021, he made an appearance on the cooking show Celebrity Masterchef, when he made the final 3.
A Theatre Career
At the Central Theatre in Chatham, Medway, he subsequently performed as Buttons in the pantomime Cinderella. In 2009 and 2010, he made an appearance in the pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in Bristol.

Joe and TV presenter Tim Vincent 2009 broke a Guinness World Record for throwing the most pancakes to a partner as part of a challenge on Channel 4’s The Paul O’Grady Show.
