Who is Russell Bowers?
Rusell ”Rusty” Bowers is a well-known American politician and the current Arizona House of Representatives Speaker. He is a member of the Republican Party and has represented the 25th legislative district since 2015. Bowers was elected as the Speaker in 2019.
He previously represented the 21st legislative district in the Arizona House from 1993-1997 and from 1997-2001, in the Arizona Senate. Bowers is a classically trained artist specializing in watercolor, oil painting, and sculpting, and has additionally been involved in the construction and education industries. Resistance to overturning the 2020 United States presidential election
Rusell declined to cooperate with the illegal attempts to overturn the 2020 United States presidential election. He did this by publicly stating that there was no evidence of election fraud that would mandate rejection of the results of the 2020 United States presidential election in Arizona. Bowers then testified to the January 6 commission, on June 21, 2022. In a section of his testimony, he said that when he asked Rudy Giuliani for evidence that there was a fraud, Giuliani responded ”We have lots of theories, we just don’t have the evidence”.
He additionally killed a bill in the Arizona House of Representatives which would have allowed the state legislature to override the results of a presidential election in Arizona. For his efforts in resisting the attempts to overturn the 2020 election results, he earned the John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award. Bowers was among five honorees to receive the award in 2022.

In 2014, Rusell and Olson defeated Haydee Dawson, Michelle Udall, and Jerry Walker in the Republican primary. The duo then beat David Butler, Sheila Ogea, and Libertarian Michael Kielsky in the general election, with Bowers gaining 33,220 votes. In 2016, he and Udall defeated Ross Gren in the Republican primary. They then defeated Kathleen Rahn, with Rusell gaining 51,160 votes. In 2018 together with Udall, he defeated Marlene Hinton in the Republican primary. Bowers and Olson then defeated Johnny Martin in the general elections, with Bowers gaining 30,712 votes.
