He had his first role in a movie when he was in first grade and thus became a member of SAG at the age of four. Ryan had a supporting role in Stolen Summer in 2022, which was a film made during Project Greenlight. Moreover, he played in two episodes of Smallville in the role of Ryan James. He then won 2004 an Independent Spirit Award for his performance in Mean Creek. In 2004 also, he played a lead role in the movie The Dust Factory. Next, he appeared in 2006 in the film Letters from Iwo Jima as a marine. Also, he played in Outlaw Trail: The Treasure of Butch Cassidy as Roy, a great-nephew of Butvh Cassidy.
