Sambo Dasuki Career

In 1983, Sambo Dasuki, a military Major and an assistant to General Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi, took part in the military coup d’état that elected Major General Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s President.

In the 1985 palace coup headed by Major General Ibrahim Babangida, Sambo Dasuki was one of four majors (Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, Lawan Gwadabe, and Abdulmumini Aminu) who imprisoned Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari.

Dasuki was appointed as General Ibrahim Babangida’s Aide-de-Camp (ADC) after the coup was successful.

Dasuki was a former managing director of the Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Limited (NSPMC) who resigned in protest when former President Olusegun Obasanjo privatized the company.

In 2015, the elections were postponed until March 28, 2015, based on Sambo Dasuki’s advice to the Independent National Electoral Commission while serving as national security advisor that operations against Boko Haram militants would leave the Nigerian military unable to provide adequate security for the already scheduled 2015 Nigerian general elections.

6 months after his release from prison, Sambo Dasuki welcomes a new baby

Six months after being released from prison, Sambo Dasuki welcomed a newborn baby from his second wife on Friday.

Remember that President Muhammadu Buhari released the former NSA on December 24, 2019, after he had been detained by the Department of State Security Services (SSS) since December 2015 for an alleged $2 billion armaments procurement scandal.

Sambo Dasuki Net Worth

Sambo Dasuki had worked in political offices where money was exchanged. Nigerian Security Printing and Minting Company Limited was his company’s managing director (NSPMC).

Then, as National Security Adviser (NSA), Dasuki has unrestricted control over the nation’s billion-dollar security budget. While in office, his monthly/annual compensation was well over N20 million.

However, there is no absolute statement of Dasuki’s net wealth because most of Nigeria’s executive administration lacks transparency.

Why Was Sambo Dasuki Been Arrested

Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) detained Dasuki on December 1, 2015, for allegedly stealing $2 billion and granting bogus contracts to buy 12 helicopters, four fighter jets, and ammunition for Nigeria’s military campaign against Boko Haram Islamist extremists.

Prior to his detention, Dasuki was held under house arrest for nearly a month at his Abuja residence, which was likely to prevent the retired colonel from fleeing the nation.

Justice Adeniyi Ademola of the Federal High Court Abuja eventually approved Dasuki’s plea for his passport to be released so that he may undergo medical treatment overseas, but this was impeded by the SSS, who conducted another siege at Dasuki’s Abuja house on November 5.

His Arrest

Dasuki, the former NSA, was detained and remanded in the Economic and Financial Crime Commission’s custody (EFCC).

After denying his involvement in the misappropriation of $2.2 billion meant for the purchase of arms to fight Boko Haram terrorists, Dasuki issued a statement in which he named a number of PDP chieftains, ex-governors, ex-ministers, and others who received millions of naira from the former NSA’s office.

The EFCC’s probe into the stolen funds, dubbed DASUKIGATE, was bolstered by the statement.

Sambo Dasuki Family – Wife – Children

On Monday, a family source told News Media that the birth is Mr. Dasuki’s third child from his second marriage.

The former NSA’s first wife, whom he divorced years ago, also had three children, according to the source.

Mrs. Dasuki, the former NSA’s wife, created a disturbance at the Department of State Security Service (DSS) headquarters on December 29, 2016, amid the corruption accusations engulfing her husband.

She was pleading with agency and federal officials not to let her husband die in detention and to release him so he could receive good medical care abroad.

Dasuki’s enraged wife, together with his children and relatives, organized a protest, demanding his release.

Sambo Dasuki Houses – Cars

The EFCC seized his houses in Kaduna after his trial in court in January 2016. A hotel and a mansion under construction are among the residences. He also has a home in Asokoro, at No. 13, John Kadiya Street.

During a hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 14, 2015, Sambo Dasuki, who faces 22 counts of fraud and money laundering, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Dasuki was initially given bail of N250 million by the federal high court, but he was re-arrested by the State Security Service, SSS, on his way out of Kuje jail in Abuja, claiming he was being probed for many crimes.

The court overturned the government’s opposition to his suit, affirming his fundamental human right to liberty.

However, the Nigerian court has yet to recognize this since, according to FG, “the ECOWAS has no jurisdiction to engage in the trial of any Nigerian in a Nigerian court.”

Sambo Dasuki’s 1985 arrest of Buhari over the alleged destruction of his first marriage

The rumored enmity between President Muhammadu Buhari and the embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, is currently being followed down history lane.

Former military ruler Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida deposed Buhari in a military coup d’etat in 1995, and former National Security Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Sambo Dasuki, promptly imprisoned Buhari.

Nigerians were celebrating the Muslim festival and taking advantage of the public holidays when this incident occurred.

According to history, on August 26th, 1985, Sambo Dasuki led a squad of four police officers, including Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, Lawan Gwadabe, and Abdulmumuni Aminu, to arrest Buhari.

Buhari was detained, and his government was overthrown. Buhari was imprisoned by IBB with the cooperation of Dasuki. Dasuki was then appointed as Babangida’s ADC (aide-de-camp).

Buhari spent two years in prison, which ruined his relationship with Safinatu. Buhari and Hajia Safinatu married in 1971 and have five children, four daughters and one son. According to unconfirmed accounts, Safinatu divorced Buhari after his release, claiming that she was heartbroken by Buhari’s detention.

From December 1983 to August 1985, Safinatu was the First Lady of Nigeria. Buhari reportedly divorced her in 1988, after which he married Aisha in 1989.

Hajia Safinatu, on the other hand, is no longer alive; she died of diabetes complications in 2006.

Muhammadu Buhari is now prosecuting Sambo Dasuki for alleged fraud and misappropriation of $2.1 billion in funds allocated for arms acquisition during the previous administration.
