In 2005, she played Carmen on The L Word, Kate Reed in the USA Network legal drama Fairly Legal (2011-2012), and Sameen Shaw in the CBS crime drama Person of Interest (2012 to 2016). In addition, she has appeared in the main role of Det.

While working as an extra on the set of Dr. T and the Women in Texas, she met director Robert Altman who encouraged her to move to Hollywood. While in Hollywood, she received roles in several series including, Alias, Dawson’s Creek, Reba, and Supernatural. The roles she received while in Hollywood built up the name and she appeared in 2005 in the supporting character of DJ Carmen de la Pica Morales on The L Word, which she joined in its second season.
However, after the end of the fourth season, her contract was not renewed and thus her character was written out. That same year, she took on her first permanent leading role in a TV series, where she co-starred in the NBC series Life with Damian Lewis, as homicide detective Dani Reese. Moreover, the series ran for only two seasons. Sarah landed the role in the USA Network pilot, Facing Kate in October 2009. And began filming in November 2009.
Later the series was changed to Fairly Legal and was canceled in November 2012, after only two seasons. In October 2012, she was cast as a recurring love interest for Taylor Kinney‘s character Lt. Kelly Severide on NBC’s show Chicago Fire. Her next work was cast in February 2013 in the recurring role of Sameen Shaw on Person of Interest, thus making her first appearance in the second season episode “Relevance”. CBS President Nina Tasslet announced in May 2013 that Sarah would be added as a series regular for its third season.

In 2012 also, she played the daughter of Sylvester Stallone’s character in the film Bullet to the Head. Her co-star in this film is Jason Momoa, whom she worked with again in the 2014 film Road to Paloma. Following the episode of Person of Interest, in January 2015, Sarah and the show’s producer announced she would be going on mertanity leave. She returned in February 2016 when she was cast as iconic detective Nancy Drew in a planned TV series based on the books. CBS in May 2016 passed on the series. In May also, she resumed her appearances as Shaw on Person of Interest until June 21, 2016, when the show ended.
