She is also a candidate in the 2022 elections to represent Pennsylvania’s 12th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives. Currently, she lives in Swissvale, Pennsylvania.

Summer Lee Political Career

A Career at Pennsylvania House of Representatives
In 2018, she challenged incumbent Representative Paul Costa in the Democratic primary for the 34th district. An organizer from Pittsburgh’s DSA chapter approached Lee and asked about her running after she led a successful write-in campaign for a school board candidate. Lee defeated Costa by 67.8-32. 2% margin, thus attributing her victory to grassroots campaigning. Her committee assignments include Education, Health, and Judiciary.

A Career in the 2022 United States House of Representatives Campaign

Lee announced her candidacy for Pennsylvania’s 18th congressional district in October 2021, after the incumbent representative Mike Doyle announced his retirement. In February 2022, after Pennsylvania’s new congressional districts were chosen, she announced that she would run in the newly-redrawn 12th congressional district which includes Pittsburgh as well as parts of the Mon Valley and Westmoreland County.
