William Joseph Baldwin is a popular American actor, producer, model, and writer. He is a member of the Baldwin family and the second-youngest of the four Baldwin brothers. William has starred in the movies Flatliners (1990), Backdraft (1991), Sliver (1993), Virus (1999), and The Squid and the Whale (2005). He also portrayed himself in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, and the Netflix show Northern Rescue.

The 1980s

Prior to acting, William was a fashion model for Calvin Klein. His initial acting role was in a television film as Robert Chambers, together with Danny Aiello, and Lara Flynn Boyle in The Preppie Murder, which aired on ABC in 1989. He also appeared in the 1989 movie Born on the Fourth of July, starring Tom Cruise, where he performed a minor role as a U.S Marine during the Vietnam War. His two brothers Daniel and Stephen also had minor roles in the movie.

The 1990s

William’s initial featured movie was Internal Affairs, starring together with Andy Garcia and Richard Gere. Later he starred in big-budget movies including Flatliners alongside stars like Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts, and Kevin Bacon. He played as Chicago firefighter Brian McCaffrey in Backdraft with Kurt Russell and also together with an ensemble cast consisting of Scott Glenn, Robert De Niro, Rebecca De Mornay, and Donald Sutherland. Baldwin received the MTV Movie Award for Most Desirable Male for his character in the 1993 movie Sliver alongside Sharon Stone.

Baldwin had been shortlisted by Joel Schumacher for Batman Forever to play the title character in 1995. He had been shortlisted along with Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Val Kilmer, and the role went to Val Kilmer. William later starred in Fair Game together with Cindy Crawford. The 2000s

Baldwin performed a leading role in the TV movie Double Bang which aired on HBO in 2001. From there he got a role in other projects including Red Rover in 2003, Park, Feel and Lenexa, 1 Mile in 2006, and Adrift in Manhattan, A Plumm Summer Noise, and Humble Pie in 2007. William’s 2004 movie Art Heist acquired much attention when it was launched on DVD. He continued to act in movies and on television but has not taken many leading roles.

William was well received in a supporting role in the 2005 movie The Squid and the Whale together with Jeff Daniels and Laura Linney.
